CHARACTER INFO

• Character Name: Lucy Gray Baird
• Character Age: 16-17?
• Character Canon: Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
• Canon Point: from the moment at the end of the Hunger Games, where she’s singing to the snakes.

• Character History: wiki time!
• Character Personality:
— Positive Trait: Charismatic Lucy Gray is charming as FUCK. Maybe it’s a Covey thing, maybe it’s a Lucy Gray thing. Maybe it’s both! But she can absolutely charm a room. Most of the time. When that room includes the girl her ex cheated on her with, well, there’s one person that’s never going to be charmed by her. (Who is probably seething after her return from the Games because that shit was supposed to kill her. Also she almost literally sang her way out of it.) But in the zoo, when she’s talking with Lucretius Flickerman and the kids who have come to the zoo, she wins them all over. Especially the children. And then she wins Panem over by singing again. (A song that’s about her ex who’d caused her all the trouble and helped get her reaped.)
— Positive Trait: Clever/Cunning Lucy Gray might not necessarily be the most book learned character (however she is pretty damn smart in her own way), but she’s very skilled at reading the room, as well as situations. She knows she needs to play the game in order to survive the Games. At the end, when she realises what Snow has done, what something the creator of the Games had told her meant… she knows she needs to get away from him. Needs to escape. So she makes sure she can get away. Comes up with a reason to leave the little cabin they’ve found themselves in. Plays everything calm and collected, like nothing’s wrong.
— Positive Trait: Confident Lucy Gray is a performer, and she knows exactly who she is. And she owns it. Even when the reaping has been rigged to send her to the Hunger Games, she still walks up there in her colourful dress and drops a snake down the dress of the girl who’d gotten her daddy to rig the reaping for her. And after getting backhanded she can still sing, getting up on her feet and telling Panem to kiss her ass. She is who she is.

— Negative Trait: Deceptive/Manipulative The flip side of being clever and cunning. She can read a room, a situation, and turn it to her advantage. And sometimes that means outright deceiving and manipulation said situation. Snow ends up in the cargo car with all the tributes and is in danger of getting his ass killed, when Lucy Gray manages to manipulate and deescalate the situation by casually asking if they’ve got family at home, and that they’ll kill them if they kill Snow. Honestly the entirety of her time in the Hunger Games, save for her moments with Snow off camera, are her playing the game and using her charm to manipulate Panem into supporting her. How much of her is show and how much is the truth. It’s a mystery. Just like the fate of her namesake.
— Negative Trait: Guarded It’s almost a necessity of living in Panem, but Lucy Gray keeps her cards close to her chest. You never really know how serious or intense her feelings are about much of anything. She treads lightly. Carefully. Protectively. It’s only when someone (outside the Covey, anyway. For the most part) earns her trust that there’s perhaps a little more of an indication. Snow had to EARN her trust. Her loyalty. She asked him to get them food, and he did. She asked him to start thinking she actually had a chance, and he did. It took work for her to trust him. To let her guard down a little. (Sure, he then fucked it all up but that’s beyond this Lucy Gray’s canon point.) Trust is everything to her.
— Negative Trait: vengeful/retaliatory The first moment we meet Lucy Gray, her name is being called for the Reaping, and she walks towards the stage… and on the way stuffs a snake down the dress of the girl who got her daddy to rig the Reaping and call her name. And later, when she’s called to perform for Panem to earn sponsors… she sings a song basically telling the story of how she ended up being Reaped for the Games. It’s payback. For both Mayfair and Billy Taupe.
